Synopsis:

One touch is all it takes. One touch, and Juliette Ferrars can leave a fully grown man gasping for air. One touch, and she can kill.

No one knows why Juliette has such incredible power. It feels like a curse, a burden that one person alone could never bear. But The Reestablishment sees it as a gift, sees her as an opportunity. An opportunity for a deadly weapon.

Juliette has never fought for herself before. But when she’s reunited with the one person who ever cared about her, she finds a strength she never knew she had.

Review:

I read this series over the course of a couple months. I’m not entirely sure why I continued with the story after the first book. Perhaps I was intrigued. Curious to see what would happen next. The problem was, there was never a point when reading these books that I felt that “I MUST HAVE THE NEXT BOOK RIGHT NOW” feeling.

Juliet, our main character, is whiny, her self esteem is severely lacking, she second guesses everything, and it was truly a nightmare being trapped in her head. The only redeeming qualities of these books were the side characters. Not Adam though… he was a bland potato. Warner was a total babe, but he had his issues.

The story arc throughout the books is pretty decent. It was sold to me as a post apocalyptic romance and uh… yeah. It seemed to barely fit either of those categorizations. But the progression was interesting enough to keep me entertained.

I think the most difficult part of these books for me was the writing. It’s written in something called Purple Prose – which I had never heard of before reading Shatter Me. It’s intense. And it didn’t help that I listened to the first book on audio. There were so many weird noises in the audiobook (which turned out to be Juliet scratching words out of her journal) and the narrator really went all in with her voice acting – which was a bit unbearable at times.

I have yet to read the final installment. I’m in no serious rush to go out an buy it, but will keep my eye out for a deal on it.

Honestly, so many people love this series that I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t love it more. It’s just not for me.
