Synopsis:

Whenever something scandalous happens at Heller High, the Red Court is the name on everyone’s lips. Its members–the most elite female students in the school–deal out social ruin and favors in equal measure, their true identities a secret known only to their ruthless leader: the Queen of Hearts.

Sixteen-year-old Ember Williams has seen firsthand the damage the Red Court can do. Two years ago, they caused the accident that left her older sister paralyzed. Now, Ember is determined to hold them accountable…by taking the Red Court down from the inside.

But crossing enemy lines will mean crossing moral boundaries, too–ones Ember may never be able to come back from. She always knew taking on the Red Court would come at a price, but will the cost of revenge be more than she’s willing to sacrifice?

Review:

This story follows our MC, Ember, as she tries to infiltrate and destroy the Red Court – a secret society at Heller High. The Red Court is behind some of the nastiest take-downs and conducts deals in secrets and favors.⁣
Ember is out for revenge. As such, she can come across a bit hyper focused on her goal, which makes her a bit much to handle at times. This also means she is fiercely loyal, brave, and caring. Chase, the love interest, seemed a bit bland – stereotypical high school crush material. There are a plethora of other side characters, each with their own little stories and motives, who help to drive things along and add a bit more drama. One of them is named Haley… so that’s pretty dope ⁣
Overall, I read through this one so quickly! It really pulled me in and kept me interested throughout. The reveal wasn’t as exciting as I hoped, but it all seemed to tie up nicely.
