Review

Hi, hello – this book was absolutely freaking phenomenal!  I need the next book IMMEDIATELY!!!

Daughter of the Moon Goddess follows Xingyin who is, you guessed it, the daughter of the moon goddess.  When she is forced to leave the moon, and everything she has ever known, she must find a way to survive in the Celestial Kingdom on her own.  Through a twist of fate, she finds herself the learning companion of the prince.  Though she forms a fast friendship with Liwei, this is only the beginning of her incredible journey to free her mother from exile.

This book is full of magic, adventure, epic battles, romance, and dragons.  Yup… DRAGONS!! There was a natural flow to the story, nothing felt rushed, which is good because this book is on the longer side.  I loved Xingyin as a main character.  She is smart and funny, and a badass with a bow.  She never loses sight of her main goal to free her mother.  The love between those two is palpable.  Xingyin also has a few fellas interested in her and I like how she took it all in stride and made the decisions that were right for her and no one else.  She didn’t let anyone walk all over her and made a point to stand up for herself when the situation called for it.

Xingyin’s journey is long and she meets many interesting characters along the way.  I think my favorite part of the story was when she was off with Captain Wenzhi and the army, fighting monsters and working her way toward earning a favor from the Celestial Emperor.  The story shifts quite a bit in the last quarter of the book and I was not expecting the turn it took!

I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book! In the meantime, I highly recommend giving Daughter of the moon Goddess a go.  It was so magical and wonderfully written!

About the Book

Growing up on the moon, Xingyin is accustomed to solitude, unaware that she is being hidden from the feared Celestial Emperor who exiled her mother for stealing his elixir of immortality. But when Xingyin’s magic flares and her existence is discovered, she is forced to flee her home, leaving her mother behind.

Alone, powerless, and afraid, she makes her way to the Celestial Kingdom, a land of wonder and secrets. Disguising her identity, she seizes an opportunity to learn alongside the emperor’s son, mastering archery and magic, even as passion flames between her and the prince.

To save her mother, Xingyin embarks on a perilous quest, confronting legendary creatures and vicious enemies. But when treachery looms and forbidden magic threatens the kingdom, she must challenge the ruthless Celestial Emperor for her dream—striking a dangerous bargain in which she is torn between losing all she loves or plunging the realm into chaos.
