Review

An exciting page turner filled with sketchy characters, hidden motivations, and a therapist who will go to any lengths to help her patients.  I couldn’t put The Golden Couple down!

The Bishops have a secret.  In a moment of weakness, Marissa has a one-night affair with a mysterious someone and she has decided it’s time to come clean.  She enlists the help of Avery, a therapist who has recently lost her license because of her unorthodox methods of helping her clients.  As she works to restore the trust between the Bishops, it becomes glaringly obvious that they are hiding more than they are telling her and everyone in their circle of acquaintances is acting shading as hell.

The story is told in alternating perspectives – Avery and Marissa.  Though they are two different characters, it wasn’t always easy to distinguish between the two.  They read very similarly and there were a couple occasions I had to flip back to see whose chapter I was reading.  The pacing was grerat though!  I had a hard time setting the book down because there was so much going on and each chapter left me desperate to know what was going to happen next.

I also have to give props to the side characters.  Skip, Natalie, and Polly were so interesting and it was obvious they were all hiding a little something, I just couldn’t figure out how their quirks and secrets fit into the picture overall.

If you’re looking for an intense, twisty story, I would definitely recommend The Golden Couple.

About the Book

Wealthy Washington suburbanites Marissa and Matthew Bishop seem to have it all―until Marissa is unfaithful. Beneath their veneer of perfection is a relationship riven by work and a lack of intimacy. She wants to repair things for the sake of their eight-year-old son and because she loves her husband. Enter Avery Chambers.

Avery is a therapist who lost her professional license. Still, it doesn’t stop her from counseling those in crisis, though they have to adhere to her unorthodox methods. And the Bishops are desperate.

When they glide through Avery’s door and Marissa reveals her infidelity, all three are set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger.
