Review:

There is nothing I love more than a story about a theater obsessed character who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.  Throw in a little Mamma Mia magic, a competition between enemies, and an awesome shake-shop and you’ve got the perfect combination for an un-put-downable read!

Millie has gotten into an exclusive pre-college program for performers.  The only problem?  Her dad is 100% not on board with Millie moving cross-country to attend.  But Millie is determined to change her dad’s mind – with the help of her mother (who gave her away to her father at birth).  Thus, Millie sets out to find her mother in a very Mamma Mia fashion.  In her pursuit of her mother, she finds herself locked in competition with her arch nemesis, Oliver, for a coveted internship.

Millie is a girl after my own heart.  There were so many characteristics I related to – the big emotions, the fierce determination, and obviously, the love of all things theater.  She is a million miles a minute with absolutely zero chill and I loved her for it.  And while that makes for some very interesting situations, it does come back to bite her in the butt a few times.  Been there, babes.  I feel ya.  I think a lot of readers will relate to Millie and fall in love with her, flaws and all.  I also loved the tension between Millie and Oliver.  Their back and forth was hilarious and I loved experiencing them learning more about each other and their goals and motivations.

As with any good production, there are several side characters who round out the cast and add a bit more sparkle to the story.  Millie’s best friend, her three potential mothers, and Millie’s aunt are all fantastic.  I particularly loved Millie’s boss, who is an incredibly formidable, bad ass female in the industry.  I want to be her when I grow up.  The conclusion of Millie’s story will give you everything you could hope for.

About the Book

Nothing will get in the way of Millie Price’s dream of becoming a Broadway star. Not her lovable but super introverted dad, who raised Millie alone since she was a baby. Not her drama club rival, Oliver, who is the very definition of Simmering Romantic Tension. And not her “Millie Moods,” the feelings of intense emotion that threaten to overwhelm. Millie needs an ally. And when an accidentally left-open browser brings Millie to her dad’s embarrassingly moody LiveJournal from 2003, Millie knows just what to do―find her mom.

But how can you find a new part of your life and expect it to fit into your old one without leaving any marks? And why is it that when you go looking for the past, it somehow keeps bringing you back to what you’ve had all along?
